Edgewood Council Approves Moving Forward with Liquor License

The following issues were discussed at Monday night's meeting.

Council met for its regular meeting Monday night and discussed the following issues:

  • Council approved and swore in a new , Anna Evashavik. The Edgewood student will sit on council, observe meetings and learn more about local government.
  • Amy Andrews of the Edgewood Foundation presented council with the organization’s annual report. Andrews said the foundation has raised money for , the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department, and other smaller projects. The next foundation event is a clean up of the borough’s litter April 21. She also noted that the recent Progressive Dinner was a success.
  • Trees that recently have been taken down along East End Avenue because of safety reasons will soon be replaced with more urban trees appropriate for the streets in the neighborhood.
  • Regent Square restaurant is applying for a liquor license transfer. Council approved moving forward in the process with a public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. March 19 for public comment regarding the license. 
  • Council approved a new policy requiring borough-hired emergency service workers to take a drug test and undergo a background check before employment.
  • The Edgewood Newsletter will now be sent in the mail to residents six times a year rather than 10 beginning this summer. Council member Jennifer Gleba cited cost concerns as the main reason, while she also noted the borough will focus on revamping its website and making it more user-friendly.
  • The Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department has a new website which can be found at www.station137.com. EVFD’s Steve Halle told council that a lot of work went into the site over the last few months.
