Wilkinsburg Teen Charged in Swissvale Shooting

A 17-year-old from Wilkinsburg is facing charges after being accused of shooting someone in Swissvale on Monday.

Allegheny County Police have charged Javon Thornton as an adult with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and firearms violations.

Police were called to the 7700 block of Westmoreland Street at around 5:30, and found a 19-year-old with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Police officers in Edgewood assisted with the call and encountered a person matching the shooter's description. He fled and discarded the gun, but Edgewood officers captured him, according to county police. The gun was recovered. 

Thornton is being held at the Allegheny County Jail. His bail has been set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 16 at 12:30 p.m. in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.
