Wilkinsburg Man Convicted of Attempted Murder

Victim shot twice in the head survives and testifies at trial.

DuWayne Dixon, 22, of Wilkinsburg was convicted Friday of the attempted murder of Andre Ripley following a 10-day jury trial before Allegheny County Judge Joe Williams.

A sentencing date for Dixon has not been set.

Ripley, 25, was targeted by Dixon because Ripley was set to testify in the trial of Joshua Evans. Evans had shot Ripley and a 3-month-old infant, who survived, during a botched robbery in Ferguson Park in Wilkinsburg on May 25, 2007.

Dixon shot Ripley twice in the head in February 2008—10 days before the trial of Evans—while he cleared snow off a neighbor's vehicle in Homewood. Ripley survived and testified during the trial.

Evans eventually pleaded guilty to shooting Ripley in 2007 and in the plot to kill Ripley. He was sentenced to 26 to 52 years in jail.
