Wilkinsburg Council Votes No on Disbanding Police Department

A local council member let us know that this conversation is now over.

Wilkinsburg Council member Pamela Macklin left the following information posted on our Facebook page earlier this week. Council previously discussed the possibility of

"Wilkinsburg Borough Council voted 4 to 3 on Wednesday, April 9, to stop the outsourcing of local police and local safety control. The Wilkinsburg Police Department, , and other border communities have mutual aid agreements to support each others public safety departments.

"They work very well together and know their communities. Allegheny County police/sheriffs provide free of charge to our communities specialized units to oversee major crimes investigations.

"For three weeks, Wilkinsburg Council chambers were packed with residents and business owners supporting and praising the Wilkinsburg police with testimonials.

"These numbers were expanded by the many petitions residents presented to council. Our residents and businesses told their elected officials what they needed and wanted. Wilkinsburg Council listened and responded. Thank you."
