U.S. Marshals Apprehend Fugitive Wednesday in Wilkinsburg

George Johnson was wanted in connection with a shooting in Garfield in October.

U.S. Marshals arrested George Johnson, a suspect in a shooting that occurred in the Garfield section of Pittsburgh on Oct. 15, at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in Wilkinsburg.

Johnson, 25, was arrested by U.S. Marshals Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force (WPAFTF) officers, accompanied by Wilkinsburg police and Allegheny County Adult Probation Officers. Johnson had been charged by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on Oct. 18 with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and firearms offenses.

Johnson is alleged to have fired multiple shots at a male victim, striking him four times. He is originally from Pittsburgh and was last known to frequent the Garfield section of the city.

WPAFTF investigators tracked Johnson to a house in the 600 block of Penn Avenue, Wilkinsburg, where he was apprehended without incident.             

The Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force is made up of the following member agencies:  U.S. Marshals, Pennsylvania State Police, Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office.
