Theft Suspect Tosses Security Into Melon Display

Here are the Edgewood police reports for May 24 to 30.

A woman is facing theft and assault charges after being accused of throwing security into a melon display in an attempt to get away.

Edgewood police have charged Latisha Hall, 37, with simple assault, retail theft, disorderly conduct and false identification to law enforcement after a May 26 incident at Giant Eagle. Hall is accused of stealing items from the store and throwing someone from loss prevention over the store's watermelon display.

The following incidents also were reported to the Edgewood Police Department:

May 24

  • Police continue to investigate a fraud case involving a local businessman who reported that someone had hacked into his AOL account and transfered almost $13,000 from his bank account to Michigan. 
  • A man was charged with retail theft after attempting to steal air fresheners from Dollar Tree.

May 25 
  • A vehicle crashed into a parked car on Edgewood Avenue.
  • Retail theft was reported at Kmart.
May 26
  • Officers assisted Swissvale police with a home invasion on Milton Street. According to police, a biracial man was found in the garage of an elderly couple's home. Police searched the area for the suspect.
May 27
  • Officers assisted Wilkinsburg police with a fight on Walnut Street. According to police, a woman partially bit off another woman's finger.
May 28
  • Two 13-year-olds from Homewood attempted to steal air soft guns from Kmart. They will be privately prosecuted.
  • Officers responded Giant Eagle after reports of a disorderly woman.
