Swissvale Police Warn of Water Company Impersonators

However, the Facebook version of the message conveys a very different scenario.

The Swissvale Police Department is advising residents to be aware of several individuals impersonating water company employees.

The individuals come to the house in a group of three or four, distract the home owner while they check the water lines, and commit theft.

If anyone comes to your house claiming to be a water/utility company employee without an appointment, do not let them in. Call the water/utility company to verify who they are, even if they produce identification, or call 911 and request the police.

Ironically, the Facebook version of this message, which was sent out by police on Nixle, a notification service for law enforcement and government agencies, conveys a different message.

Because of formatting, it reads: "Water company impersonators from Swissvale Police Department."

The impersonators are not police officers—just in case there was any question.
