Shoplifting Arrest Leads to Drug Bust in Edgewood

Edgewood police charged Gloria Davis, 45, of Homewood with possession, possession with intent, paraphernalia, retail theft and disorderly conduct after an incident at Kmart on Nov. 15.

Davis was stopped as she was attempting to flee from a Kmart loss prevention officer. After she was taken into custody, officers discovered a large amount of suspected heroin, approximately two grams, as well as six needles and cooking spoons.

Davis faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kim M. Hoots on Nov. 29 at 8:30 a.m.

A man who was with Davis remained in the store during the incident. He was later charged by a Kmart loss prevention officer and will face private prosecution.

Nov. 19

• An unidentified woman stole a pie and four muffins from the Eat'n Park in Edgewood Towne Centre. The store employees retrieved the baked goods. However, police were unable to locate the woman.

Nov. 18

• Edgewood police assisted Swissvale Police Department with a three-vehicle accident in the 1100 block of South Braddock Avenue. No injuries were reported.

• A woman stole $61.19 in merchandise from the Giant Eagle in Edgewood Towne Centre. The store will pursue a private prosecution.

• Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg Police Department with a domestic incident in the 1200 block of Center Street.

• Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg Police Department with a domestic incident in the 400 block of Ella Street.

Nov. 17

• A juvenile stole two electronic cigarettes from the Giant Eagle in Edgewood Towne Centre. The store will pursue private prosecution.

Nov. 16

• A female lost her phone inside the Applebee's at Edgewood Towne Centre and caused a scene when she could not find it. Restaurant employees called police for help.

Nov. 15

• Police were called to Kmart to handle a dispute caused by a customer over a canceled layaway.

• A pit bull broke loose from its owner near the corner of Coal Street and Walnut Street and bit a poodle. The poodle's owner took the dog to a veterinarian for treatment of a puncture wound. Police were unable to locate the pit bull or its owner.

Nov. 14

• Police received a call about a suspicious person in the vicinity of the Dollar Tree and Eat'n Park in Edgewood Towne Centre. A black female, approximately 40 years old and wearing a blue sweatshirt, reportedly was checking doors on parked cars. She was seen leaving the area in a green vehicle.
