Rite-Aid Retail Theft Suspect Cited for Disorderly Conduct

Forest Hills police responded at 12:44 p.m. March 12 to a 911 call that a retail theft had just occurred at the Rite Aid at 2336 Ardmore Blvd. and the suspect was heading east on Ardmore Boulevard in a green Jeep.

North Versailles police stopped the vehicle on Route 30. The vehicle registration came back to a man from Wilmerding.

The Rite Aid manager told police that the man had come to the checkout counter and tried to return two bottles of cologne for cash. The man did not have a receipt and the security tags had been removed.

As the manager questioned him and said he was going to contact police, the man left the store without the cologne bottles.

Forest Hills police went to North Versailles and placed the man under arrest. The Rite-Aid manager positively identified his as the man in the store. He was issued a citation for disorderly conduct as Rite-Aid could not positively identify that the men's cologne was taken from that store.

March 13

• An ongoing neighbor dispute between tenants on Halsey Avenue had police responding to the residence the same day a hearing was held in district court regarding the matter. The officer handling the call spoke to the first-floor tenant on the phone and had to visit the second-floor tenant when he could not be reached by phone after a second complaint call came in. The officer could not detect the level of noise that was being reported by the first-floor tenant. He advised the residents that this is a civil issue that the landlord should deal with as the noise is not disturbing others on the street. On March 14, the second-floor tenant called police to report the first-floor tenant had the television volume up too loud. The tenant planned to return to district court to report the incident.

March 12

• Police received a call about a sick racoon near the intersection of Morrow and Sherwood roads about 5:45 p.m. An officer spotted the raccoon but it ran into the woods. 

• A borough department of public works employee reported that several places in Forest Hills Park were damaged by graffiti. The employee told police that all the damage should be able to be cleaned.

• A Greensburg Pike resident called police about 8:47 p.m. to report finding a lost English bulldog. The officer recognized the dog as it was brought to the police station about a week earlier. It had also been reported lost/missing last August. Police noted that all three times, the dog had no tags or identification. Police planned to issue a borough citation to the owner for allowing the dog to run at large.

March 11

• A resident of Kenmore Avenue called police at 9:32 a.m. to report a barking dog that another tenant in the duplex lets out at 6 a.m. The resident complained that the dog's barking wakes her up and she cannot get back to sleep. The dog owner was advised to contact her landlord and both were advised to contact the district court office.

March 10

• Forest Hills police responded to assist Wilkins Township police at 3:42 a.m. with a burglary at Eyetique in Penn Center on William Penn Highway. An officer observed a broken glass door but could not determine if someone was still inside the store. Police observed an open ceiling vent in an office area through the window but could not access the office. Firefighters responded with a ladder so police could check the roof of the business. 

• An officer traveling westbound on Ardmore Boulevard noticed a vehicle without a registration sticker at 8:55 p.m. When he ran the registration, he discovered that the owner was someone he knew was wanted on a warrant by the Allegheny County Sheriff's office. Once the driver was properly identified, he was placed under arrest and held at the Forest Hills police station until the sheriff's deparment officers took him into custody.

• A fugitive from Virginia was taken into custody at a Sharon Drive home at 12:44 p.m. Forest Hills police were contacted by Fredericksburg Police Department, asking that an officer go to the Sharon Drive address to look for the fugitive. A felony warrant had been issued in Virginia for his arrest. The Fredericksburg police planned to extradite him. Once located at the home, Forest Hills police arrested the man and held him at the station until a fugitive complaint was completed.

March 9

• A resident of Sumner Avenue reported getting harassing calls from a woman who threatened her. Police advised her to document the calls.

• Police were called to the Howard Hanna office on Ardmore Boulevard about 2:21 p.m. for a report that a man had been laying on the sidewalk all day. The man was identified as a homeless man trying to get back to Kentucky. He had issues with his feet from walking too much, so an officer transported him to the laundromat in Braddock Hills Shopping Center and advised about the jitney stand.

March 7

• A resident of Lafayette Drive called to report the smell of something burning inside his home at 8:45 p.m. Firefighters and police detected a slight odor in the kitchen area that smelled like burnt plastic. No smoke was evident inside the house.

• Police responded to an area around Marion and Halsey avenues about 7:10 p.m. after 911 dispatch received a call from a cell phone caller who claimed he was being hit. The phone was tracked to mid-block on Halsey but police found nothing unusual. Several calls were made to the phone number without success.
