Police Chase Through Swissvale Ends in Penn Twp.

Driver ends up crashing into a tree; Swissvale officers reportedly injured.

KDKA-TV is reporting that a high-speed chase that passed through Friday night ended on Meadowbrook Road in Penn Township, Westmoreland County.

Chartiers Valley Patch local editor Mike Jones was on the Parkway East and reported seeing dozens of police cars with flashing lights and sirens heading out toward Monroeville around 9:10 p.m.

Munhall Crime Alerts reported on Twitter that police were involved in the chase, although there are conflicting reports about whether the pursuit began along Ardmore Boulevard in Forest Hills or in Swissvale.

Over the next half hour, the pursuit hit speeds of 100 mph as Pittsburgh and state police, as well as departments from throughout the eastern suburbs of Allegheny County, chased the vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle went over a hill and into a tree, as did one of the police cars. KDKA is reporting that the suspect is a Greensburg resident and that there are multiple warrants for his arrest.

WTAE reports that a Swissvale police officer driving a sport utility vehicle was chasing the car when both vehicles went over a hill. WTAE reports that the officer suffered a leg injury.

WTAE quotes authorities as saying someone bailed from the car and was arrested by a K-9 officer on Meadowbrook Road.

It is amazing no one else was seriously injured or killed during this chase. What did this POI do to have City, State & local east PDs become involved to continue a 2 county chase?

Munhall Crime Alerts said on Twitter that a suspicious car was seen in a Munhall cemetery about the same time this all happened. The armored car robbery/murder suspect had left money at his grandmother's grave in Munhall. However, we have not been able to confirm that there is any connection to that Tweet and the other posts Munhall Crime Alerts had on Twitter about the chase. Keep checking back as the story develops.

The latest update from KDKA-TV says the suspect is from Greensburg and had multiple warrants issued for his arrest.
