Pittsburgh Public Schools: Solicitor Reopens Investigation on Sex Allegations

A statement released this afternoon by the school district refutes WPXI-TV report that it received a specific complaint about locker room sex with a student by a retired Westinghouse High football coach.

Pittsburgh Public Schools has issued a statement that the district solicitor has reopened an investigation into a complaint about alleged sexual misconduct after a WPXI-TV report that a retired football coach had "sex with a student in a locker room."

"Contrary to the WPXI report by Alan Jenningson Nov. 15, 2011, Pittsburgh Public Schools has not received a complaint alleging 'sex with student in a locker room' by a retired Pittsburgh Westinghouse football coach," according to a statement issued about 3 p.m. Wednesday by Ebony Pugh, district public relations coordinator.

The statement goes on that in April 2010, the Pennsylvania Department of Education notified the district of an unsubstantiated complaint regarding the high school that was received through the U.S. Department of Education inspector general's hotline.

The district statement continues: "The rambling complaint of poor school conduct alleged numerous issues at the school ranging from inappropriate conduct by students on the school grounds, sexual misconduct and broken security cameras. The allegations of sexual misconduct did not name individuals.

"The entire matter was referred to the chief of school police for investigation. Unfortunately there is no record of a comprehensive report of the investigation, nor any other record of it being forwarded to any other department of the district. Therefore the solicitor has reopened the investigation of the complaint."
