Pittsburgh Police Seek Witnesses to East Liberty Shooting

Two people are in critical condition after gunfire erupted at a midget football game between East End and Wilkinsburg.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is seeking witnesses or persons with information about a shooting incident Saturday morning in East Liberty during a midget football game between the East End Raiders and Wilkinsburg.

At approximately 10:08 a.m., police responded to the Pittsburgh Obama School football field, 515 N. Highland Ave, where three people in the stands had been shot.

According to police, a 27-year-old male from Wilkinsburg was shot in the chest, a 64-year-old female from Verona was shot in the stomach and shoulder and a 33-year-old female was shot in the hand. All were transported to UPMC Presbyterian hospital by paramedics. The female shot in the hand was in stable condition and the other two victims were in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery.

Detectives learned that there were midget league football games at Pittsburgh Obama School between the East End Raiders and Wilkinsburg. After one of the games was over, a fight broke out in the stands, which was related to an ongoing dispute involving the 27-year-old from Wilkinsburg and other males from Wilkinsburg. 

Police said the gunshots that erupted seem to have been intended for the male victim. However, the 64-year-old woman and 33-year-old victim sustained gunshot wounds during the shooting.

No arrests have been made and two of the victims remain in critical condition.

Police are asking for any witnesses who attended the game or anyone with information on the shooting to call the Pittsburgh Homicide Squad at 412-323-7161. Callers can remain anonymous.
