Nearby: Fire Forces Evacuation at Penn Center Apartments in Wilkins

Multiple fire, ambulance and transportation vehicles respond to the scene at the Brentmoor at Penn Center Apartments.

Area fire crews responded to a report of heavy smoke at the Brentmoor at Penn Center Apartments in Wilkins Township and discovered fire in the walls of multiple floors.

The Post-Gazette is reporting the fire started on the sixth floor about 12:15 p.m. Fire crews were still on the scene at 4 p.m.

Crews were dispatched about 12:15 p.m. and are still on the scene at 1100 Penn Center Boulevard as of 4 p.m. In addition to firefighters, a number of local ambulances were lined up outside the apartment building at 1100 Penn Center Blvd., as well as a Port Authority bus and local transportation carriers with smaller buses.

The building has a number of elderly residents. Heavy smoke damage was reported throughout the building, though damage was not apparent from the outside.
