Kitchen Fire Damages Edgewood Home

Crews responded to a fire on Locust Street Saturday night.

A kitchen fire erupted at a duplex Saturday night in a blaze that most likely began from a cigarette in a garbage can, according to Edgewood Fire Chief Dave Andrews.

Andrews said the fire began a little after 6 p.m. at 441 Locust St. The fire started in the tenant side of the duplex in the kitchen area, while the owner of the home lived on the other side at 439 Locust St. Their names were not available Saturday night.

"It took off the kitchen in the back," Andrews said.

Andrews said in addition to the kitchen being destroyed, smoke and water damage also took place during the blaze. Three cats also were rescued from the fire.
