Forest Hills Police Search for Bus Driver Involved in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a school bus in Forest Hills on Wednesday.

Forest Hills Police Chief Chuck Williams said that at about 8:05 a.m., a small school bus was pulling out of Carl Avenue and struck a Wilkins Township resident—dragging her into the middle of Greensburg Pike.

"It was a horrific scene," he said.

According to WPXI, the woman is identified as 67-year-old Alberta Slaczka.

The driver of the bus reportedly drove off, according to police. Slaczka suffered a broken hip and broken ribs, underwent surgery, and she remains in critical condition at Mercy Hospital.

Police closed Greensburg Pike from Marion Avenue to Elizabeth Street for several hours following the accident. Williams said Allegheny County Homicide detectives are assisting the department with the investigation.

Forest Hills police were at the Carl Avenue and Greensburg Pike intersection for about an hour Thursday morning to interview motorists who might have witnessed the hit-and-run accident.

"We're looking for this person, and we're trying to narrow down the field," Williams said. "A lot of people use the same route every day. We did get a little bit of help."

Williams said speed was not a factor in this specific incident.

"Speed had absolutely nothing to do with this situation. It was a very slow-speed accident," he said. "It's a terrible situation, and we don't believe it was intentional, but when someone leaves the scene, it makes it difficult."
