Forest Hills Police: Man Charged with Assault After Driveway Dispute

July 13

  • Police responded to a report that a Barclay Avenue resident’s tires were slashed between the morning and afternoon. Officers noted no other criminal mischief in the area recently, according to the police report.

July 15

  • A Cascade Road resident reported that a surveillance camera had been stolen from her back yard.

  • Police arrested Michael M. Mariani, 31, of Forest Hills and charged him with simple assault after  a dispute with his neighbor, Richard Pfenninger, over dirt being removed from their shared driveway on Wellington Rd. According to the police report, the dirt removal was court-ordered. Mariani later was released from custody under the condition that he doesn't contact Pfenninger.
  • Police responded to a report that a car was being stolen from a Fairview Avenue resident. The suspects, two men, fled the scene when the resident turned her house lights on. According to the police report, the suspects were unable to steal the Toyota Camry—even though it was unlocked and the keys were left in it—because its transmission takes time to warm up. The suspects allegedly took $42 from another of the owner’s vehicles, which was also unlocked.
  • A resident on Avenue A reported that someone had broken into his shed and stolen a weed-eater while he was on vacation.
  • An Edgewood Road resident reported that someone had knocked on her back door shortly before 10:30 p.m. Officers checked the area but found no suspects.

July 17

  • An Ogden Rd. resident reported that eggs had been thrown at his front door, with sunflowers also being damaged. The man said similar incidents had been happening, and police told him to report any trouble.
  • An officer responded to a verbal dispute at the Shell gas station on Greensburg Pike.
  • Officers were dispatched to Ardmore Boulevard near Domino's Pizza for a report of fireworks in the area. Although police heard the fireworks, they couldn’t find where they were coming from.

July 18

  • Police received a report that a possibly intoxicated driver used the drive through window at Taco Bell shortly before 1 a.m.. Officers weren’t able to locate the vehicle.
  • A Forest Hills woman told police someone had forged her checks.
