Five DUI Cases Heard by Judge Caulfield

  • Sandi Bodie, 54, of Forest Hills was held for court on seven counts of criminal trespass, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft by unlawful taking, two counts of receiving stolen property and three more counts of criminal trespass in connection with money being stolen from an employee's purse on May 2 and May 9 at , where Bodie worked. The judge dismissed one count of burglary and one count of unlawful taking. police filed the charges.
  • Several charges filed by Swissvale police against David Anthony Focer, 22, of Pittsburgh were held for court, including: two counts of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of driving the wrong way, and one count each of firearms not to be carried without a license, aggravated assault, intentional possession of controlled substance by a person not registered, failure to stop at a red signal, driving at a save speed, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief. He was also held for court on a charge of driving under the influence (general impairment, incapable of driving safely, first offense) and a second charge of driving under the influence (blood alcohol content of .08 to .10, first offense). A charge of manufacture, deliver or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver was dismissed. Charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and flight to avoid apprehension, trial or punishment were withdrawn. The charges stem from when Focer attempted to elude police after he was spotted driving the wrong way onto McClure Avenue from South Braddock Avenue as and Swissvale police were conducting a DUI checkpoint on May 12. Focer's vehicle and a police cruiser crashed at the intersection of Commercial Street and Blackhawk. He had a clear plastic bag containing marijuana and $1,691 in currency in his possession.
  • Stephen L. Glance, 49, of Wilkins Township waived his right to a preliminary hearing in district court on charges of driving under the influence (general impairment/incapable of driving safely, third offense), driving under the influence (highest rate of alcohol, third offense) and disregard traffic lanes and duties at a stop sign after Forest Hills police observed him driving erratically on June 17. According to a criminal complaint, Glance failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of .221. A charge of careless driving was withdrawn.
  • Oginga Smith, 41, of Wilkinsburg was held for court on charges of simple assault and terroristic threats in connection with an incident on Dickson Street in Swissvale on June 1. Charges were filed by Swissvale police.
  • Charges of driving under the influence (general impairment, incapable of driving safely, first offense) and driving under the influence (blood alcohol content of .10 to .16, first offense) filed by Forest Hills police against Matthew Maus, 24, of North Versailles were held for court. Maus was stopped during a DUI checkpoint conducted by the East Hills DUI Task Force on July 21. According to a criminal complaint, he failed field sobriety tests.
  • John D. Orrell, 36, of North Huntingdon waived his right to a preliminary hearing on a charge of driving under the influence (general impairment/incapable of driving safely, first offense). Charges were filed by Forest Hills police after Orrell failed a field sobriety test during a DUI checkpoint on Ardmore Boulevard conducted by the East Hills DUI Task Force on July 21.
  • Amanda Rae Brandle, 22, of Swissvale waived her right to a preliminary hearing on two counts of driving under the influence, one count of driving at a unsafe speed and one count of accidental damage to an unattended vehicle or property filed by Swissvale police after she was involved in a hit-and-run accident on Schoyer Avenue in Swissvale on July 7. According to a criminal complaint, she returned to the scene, where she failed a field sobriety and breath analyzer tests.
