Edgewood VFD Planning Citizen's Classes

Learn more about what the local department takes on each day.

Get an insider's view of the Edgewood Volunteer Fire Department by enrolling in the Citizen's Fire Academy. 

This free educational program provides residents with fire safety and rescue training, plus hands-on experience in emergency operations. In addition, gain firsthand knowledge of how the EVFD works.

Participants in this program will meet once or twice a week for several weeks including both classroom and practical outdoor sessions. The EVFD will be hosting the CFA in late May or early June.

Topics include:

  • Familiarization with air packs & bunker gear
  • Smoke maze and air pack confidence
  • Vehicle extrication ("Jaws of Life")
  • Rope rescue
  • Firefighting
  • Fire investigation
  • CPR/first aid

This course will be taught by EVFD firefighters, fire officers, and guest speakers from various agencies. Classes and practical days will be held in or around Edgewood depending on the activity. Participants must be Edgewood residents and at least 18 years old.
