Edgewood Police Reports: Man Barricades Himself in Home, Assault & Theft at Kmart

Here are the latest police reports for the week.

Sept. 9

  • A suspicious incident was reported at 121 Edgewood Ave. near as two men were observed checking the doors and mailboxes. The men were gone when police arrived.
  • police assisted officers in a driving under the influence arrest after Sean Schemel was found to have a .137 percent blood alcohol content after a breath test. Swissvale police filed charges.
  • Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg officers with a report of shots fired on South Trenton Avenue. No suspects were found when officers arrived.
  • Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg officers in a driving under the influence case as Matia Smith was found to have a .143 percent blood alcohol content. Wilkinsburg police filed charges.
  • Nicole Brundage reported to police that she was assaulted in Railroad Alley on her way home from a friend’s house. She told police four unknown people jumped her in the street. 

Sept. 10

  • A two-car accident occurred on Maple Avenue. No one was injured.
  • Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg officers with a driving under the influence arrest in which Demetries Jones was found to have a .143 percent blood alcohol content. Wilkinsburg police filed charges.
  • Edgewood police assisted Rankin officers with a driving under the influence arrest after it was found that Amy Miller had a .153 percent blood alcohol content after a breath test.

  • A disabled Budget moving truck was reported at the Race Street tunnel after Quadir Abdullah drove the 13-foot truck into the 9-foot wall of the tunnel. River City Terrorism Task Force contacted 911 and wanted the truck stopped and searched. One traffic citation was issued.

Sept. 12

  • Edgewood police assisted state police with a motorcycle accident on the Parkway East after a woman crashed into the barrier. She was taken to Shadyside UPMC Presbyterian.
  • A home burglary was reported at 8003 Westmoreland Ave. A woman was sleeping on the second floor of the home when unknown people entered through an open door and removed the contents of her purse. No description was given to police.
  • A man reported that his credit card had been stolen between Aug. 29 and 30 after it was used at Giant Eagle on Sept. 11. He found that someone charged $700 to the card but could not produce the proper jurisdiction as to where it had been stolen from.

  • Jamie Teasdale reported that her Dell laptop computer, valued at $2,500, was stolen from her unlocked parked car on Race Street.
  • A bike theft was reported at 143 Gordon Street. It had been removed from the backyard.
  • Retail theft and assault were reported at the Edgewood Towne Center K-Mart after Jacob Edgington removed 9 CDs valued at $153. He then pushed the loss prevention officer to the ground. Edgington was taken to Allegheny County Jail and refused, then taken to Mercy Hospital where he signed himself in on a 201 evaluation. He had taken 12 Xanax pills and an unknown amount of heroin.
  • Jesse Mateer threatened to shoot himself and his dogs on Gordon Street. The man then barricaded himself in the home. County SWAT responded, no one was injured.

Sept. 14

  • A suspicious person was reported sleeping in his car near CW Price in Edgewood Towne Center. He was advised to leave.
  • Police completed three criminal history investigations on three police officer candidates.
  • Criminal mischief was reported at 247 Edgewood Ave. after a man attempted to open his girlfriend’s door with his shoulder. The building manager said he would handle the situation.
  • Roy Pass was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Maple Avenue for family division warrants.

Sept. 15

  • A beagle was reportedly digging through trash and wandering the area of McKelvey Avenue. The owner was advised.
