Edgewood Police Reports: Careless Driving, Public Intoxication

Here's a look at this week's reports.

Dec. 27

  • Driver Wyatt Melius, not paying attention, ran into Carla House as she was crossing the street near the Giant Eagle in Edgewood Town Center. House was taken to UPMC Presbyterian, and officers cited Melius for careless driving.
  • Officers received a report of automatic gun fire near Edgewood Chiropractic Center. When officers inspected the scene, they determined the noise to have come from a transformer.
  • A resident reported that she lost a blue plaid Aeropostale wallet containing $100 in front of 1035 Mifflin Ave.

Dec. 26

  • Officers pulled over driver Isaac McCants for suspected DUI near the intersection of Greendale Avenue and Race Street. A breath test determined McCants was not legally impaired, but officers cited him for driving without a license before releasing him.
  • A resident returned home from vacation to find that the lock on the back door of his home on 184 Gordon St. had been damaged. Officers found a piece of metal jammed in the key hole but saw no other damage or signs of entry.
  • A resident reported that she had $94 and a debit card stolen from an unlocked locker at the Planet Fitness in Edgewood Town Center.
  • An 80-year-old man was reported missing from his home. An hour later, officers found the man, who has dementia, in the Monster Wash parking lot.

  • On South Braddock Avenue, police pulled over a man driving a stolen vehicle. Officers found on him a small amount of marijuana. The driver was cited for receiving stolen property and was released.
  • Edgewood officers assisted state police with a crash on the Parkway East.

Dec. 24

  • Found with his arms around a pit bull and lying in bushes along Maple Avenue near Edgewood Avenue, Jack Nickel was cited with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. Officers found a small bag of marijuana on him. Nickel and his dog were released to his father.
  • Police received a noise complaint resulting from a verbal argument between neighbors. Officers addressed the complaint and advised the neighbors to not speak to each other.

  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg Police after shots were reported at 1721 Paul Ct. When police arrived at the scene, they saw bullet holes in the building, but the suspects had fled.
  • Assisting Wilkinsburg Police, Edgewood officers responded to a report from Mike's Corner Deli that two men in ski masks broke into the front doors. Officers found the building secure upon arrival, with no one in sight.
  • Officers responded to a domestic dispute on Race Street. An intoxicated man wouldn't allow his fiance to leave the apartment. Police advised the man to sleep it off and not contact the woman for the rest of the night, and they gave her information on domestic violence.
  • Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg officers responding to a domestic dispute. 

Dec. 22

  • Edgewood officers assisted state police responding to a three-vehicle accident on the Parkway East that resulted in one injury.
  • Two suspicious men were reported to have been seen near 561 Allenby Ave. When Edgewood officers arrived, they identified the suspects, who were not engaged in criminal activity, and advised them of the report.
