Edgewood Police Handle Criminal Mischief, Vandalism Incidents

Edgewood Police received several reports of criminal mischief and vandalism throughout the borough last week.

On June 13, police were called to the CC Mellor Library after holes were found in the window of the first floor men's bathroom. Police noticed seven holes in the outer window and found copper BBs trapped between the inner and outer windows.

On the same day, two residents—one on Pennwood and one on Washington Street—reported that someone had thrown firecrackers at their residences. The Pennwood resident said someone tossed a firecracker into an open bedroom window and burnt their pillow. The Washington resident said a carpet melted and burned after someone tossed a firecracker onto the porch.

The following incidents are were reported to the Edgewood Police Department:

May 12

  • A vehicle crashed into a phone pole at the West Hutchinson Avenue and Race Street intersection.

May 11

  • Retail theft was reported at Giant Eagle. The person will be privately prosecuted.

  • Two juveniles accused of stealing two toy BB guns from Kmart will be privately prosecuted.
  • Two juveniles accused of stealing condoms from Giant Eagle will be privately prosecuted.

  • Three people accused of retail theft at Kmart will be privately prosecuted.

  • A person accused of stealing cosmetics from Giant Eagle will be privately prosecuted.
  • A hit and run was reported at the Giant Eagle parking lot.
  • Juveniles reportedly were throwing objects from the busway overpass onto the Parkway East. They were gone when police arrived.
