Edgewood Police Deal with Dogs Left in Cars, DUI Arrests and Accidents

Here are police reports for late August and early September from Edgewood Police Department.

Edgewood police responded to two calls where owners had left their dogs unattended for long periods of time in their cars.

On Aug. 31, an owner left a dog unattended in a car with the windows closed for about an hour at Edgewood Towne Centre. The owner was cited for disorderly conduct.

The same day, another dog was left in a car with the windows partially opened for about 30 minutes. That owner was also cited for disorderly conduct.

Sept. 3

  • A woman's red Trek mountain bike valued at $500 was stolen overnight from a residence in the 1000 block of South Trenton Avenue. The resident told police the bike was not secured.

  • Police were called to the 800 block of East Hutchinson Avenue after two juveniles allegedly broke a bottle in the street. Police report that the glass was cleaned up and the youths advised.
  • A woman driver who was six months pregnant was transported to Magee-Womens Hospital by Eastern Area EMS after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of South Braddock Avenue and Towne Centre Drive. There was no report on her condition.
  • Michael Robinson, 46, was arrested on DUI charges following a traffic stop on East Swissvale Avenue. Police report his blood alcohol content was .206.

Sept. 1

  • A car hit the rear bumper of another vehicle in the Giant Eagle parking lot at Edgewood Towne Centre, then fled the scene. Witnesses to the hit-and-run accident got the car's license number and police located the car's owner and planned to cite him by mail.
  • Dearto Fielders, 19. was cited for being under 21 years of age and possessing a malt beverage after an unidentified woman purchased a bottle of liquor for him. The woman was gone when police arrived on the scene.
  • A group of four youths threatened to jump a woman and her son. Police advised those involved.
  • An officer got "dusted" after he attempted to stop a motorcycle for equipment violations. The biker fled down Rebecca Avenue toward the Parkway East.
  • A resident of McKelvey Avenue called police to report someone might have been breaking into cars. The area was checked with no results.

Aug. 31

  • One driver fled the scene after an accident in the 1600 block of South Braddock Avenue. A man was transported to a local hospital after suffering injuries.
  • A painting of silver flowers on burgandy in its original packaging was found on Oakview Avenue. Police estimated the value of the painting at $15.
  • A woman was charged with driving under the influence after being involved in an accident. The woman resisted arrest.

Aug. 30

  • Police were called to the 300 block of West Swissvale Avenue for a possible prowler. The person who reported the incident said the man knocked on a back window, then fled the scene.

Aug. 29

  • Police report that burned toilet paper and ashes were found inside a men's bathroom at Koenig Field.
  • A quad was found in the woods near the former Edgewood train station. Police attempted to contact the owner but were not able to reach the person.
  • Edgewood police assisted Wilkinsburg Police Department at a house in the 7500 block of Penn Bridge Court. Two men were taken into custody, and guns and drugs were recovered.

Aug. 28

  • A 2010 Acura was stolen from the 200 block of Dewey Street. The car was later recovered and released to its owner.
  • A man was charged driving under the influence after police stopped him in front of the Edgewood Borough Building after observing him driving on the wrong side of the street. He was taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville for blood tests.
  • Police were called to the 100 block of Gordon Street after a resident reported that a man had urinated on a porch. When police located the man, he was covered in blood with a severe laceration to his right hand. Police located his vehicle, which was also covered in blood. The man was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital by Eastern Area EMS. The vehicle was impounded.
