Edgewood Police Confiscate BB Guns

Here are the Edgewood police reports for June 14 to 20.

Eddgewood police officers recently have been handling several criminal michief cases involving BB guns.

Last week, police confiscated at least three BB guns from juveniles after receiving complaints from residents.

On June 15, a Maple Avenue resident reported a damaged window due to a BB gun. Police cited two juveniles and confiscated their BB guns after finding them on Ivy Street.

On June 16, residents reported that juveniles were shooting road signs on Laurel Street with a BB gun. Police did not observe any damage, but the gun was turned over. 

Earlier this month, windows at the CC Mellor Library also were damaged from BB guns. 

The following incidents also were reported to Edgewood police:

June 14

  • A burglary occurred on Coal Street. Someone reportedly forced their way in through a front window and damaged duct work and water pipes. Nothing was stolen.

June 15
  • Officers assisted Wilkinsburg police with a triple shooting on Rebecca Avenue (near the Edgewood border). Read more about it in this Post Gazette article.
  • A resident received a fraud call from "Publisher Clearing House."
  • Copper piping was reported missing from Coal Street.
  • Retail theft was reported at Giant Eagle. 
June 16
  • A vehicle driving on greendale was damaged after a tree branch fell on its roof.
  • Officers assisted Wilkinsburg police after two vehicles on Franklin Avenue were shot at.
June 17
  • Two juveniles are accused of attempting to steal $105 worth of cosmetics at Giant Eagle. 
June 18
  • Angelo Cabbagestalk, 39, of East Liberty, was charged with careless driving and two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. He is accused of falling asleep behind at the wheel on South Braddock Avenue.
June 19
  • A motorist hit a utility pole and stop sign on Brinton Road at Maple Avenue. A temporary sign was placed in the area.
  • A firefighter operating an engine in reverse accidentally hit the fire rescue vehicle in the borough garage. Both vehicles sustained minor damage.
  • Officers assisted Swissvale police with a harassment situation. According to police, three juveniles threatened a female with a gun on Columbia Avenue. All three were taken into custody and no weapon was found. 
June 20
  • Officers assisted state police with an accident on the Parkway East ramp. No injuries were reported.
