Edgewood Police: Assists in Wilkinsburg Robberies, Shootings, Elementary School Assaults

March 9

  • Police responded to a call from after a student was caught fighting with another child and then hit the teacher. The student calmed down when police arrived and was taken home by a parent.
  • Derrick Summers was taken to Allegheny County Jail for felony retail theft from . He also had a warrant out for his arrest from the sheriff’s office.
  • Police responded to a hit and run accident with damage done to a parked car on South Braddock Avenue.

March 10

  • officers assisted state police with a three-vehicle accident on the Parkway.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg and Port Authority police with an armed robbery at the Hamnet Street park and ride. Two people were taken into custody near Walnut and Ella.
  • Police assisted the fire department on a call at Giant Eagle. Nothing was found.
  • Edgewood officers assisted police after six people were found in an abandoned building. They were taken into custody.
  • A juvenile was charged with driving under the influence after he was stopped for driving erratically. Police said he was under the influence of marijuana and the vehicle was involved in an accident.

  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg police after an armed robbery was reported at the Hamnet Street park and ride station. Edgewood officers chased a suspect and caught him on Whitney. The victim could not identify the suspect, but the suspect had five grams of heroin in his possession.

  • Police responded to an assault at Edgewood Elementary School after a student previously involved in an incident a few days ago hit a teacher.
  • Police responded to an assault at Edgewood Elementary School after a student threw a stapler at a teacher’s face and stabbed her. The student also punched another teacher in the stomach and arms.
  • Police responded to an accident at Edgewood and Maple after a man hit two parked cars. Jamie Williams was charged with driving under the influence after he had a .125 percent blood alcohol content after a breath test.
  • Police responded to a report of theft of copper on Oakview.
  • Police responded to a fight in the Giant Eagle parking lot.
  • Edgewood officers assisted Wilkinsburg police with two people shot on South Avenue.
  • Police responded to a medical call.
