Dog Incidents, Water Main Break Keep Forest Hills Police Busy

Forest Hills police found themselves dealing with several dog-related issues last week.

About 12:51 a.m. Feb. 27, a resident of the 200 block of Forest Hills Road reported that a dog in the neighborhood had been barking for 45 minutes. Upon arrival, an officer found the white-and-black bluetick coonhound outside. The officer advised the owner of the complaint and the dog was taken inside.

The same day, a black lab mix with no tags was found by a resident in the 100 block of Avenue L about 9:20 p.m. The owner was located on Sumner Avenue and the dog was returned.

A resident of the 300 block of Lenox Avenue reported on Feb. 25 that his black Labrador retriever went missing about 10 a.m. The dog answers to "Katie."

About 5:24 p.m., a woman reported that a pit bull was running loose. An officer located the dog on North Avenue in Chalfant and advised the owner to keep her dog on a leash.

Feb. 28

• An officer on patrol came across a large amount of trash in the roadway on Ardmore Boulevard near Sumner Avenue at 3:09 a.m. He removed as much of the debris as possible.

Feb. 25

• Police and firefighters were called for a report of a vehicle on fire on Greenwood Road. The vehicle owner and a AAA tow truck driver told police that the car was being dropped off at the owner's home when both observed flames coming from under the hood. The driver extinguished the fire before firefighters arrived, but fire crews disconnected the car's battery to prevent further issues.

• Police received a call that juveniles were throwing garbage at the about 6:24 p.m. at the Forest Hills Recreation Center. An officer found no issues with garbage but asked the juveniles to leave.

Feb. 24

• A man flagged down an officer at the intersection of Avenue F and Barclay Avenue about 5:53 p.m. He reported finding a PNC Bank card laying in the middle of the street. After a check, police learned it belonged to a North Braddock resident, who was contacted and came to the police station to claim the car.

Feb. 23

• Police were dispatched to a home in the 500 block of Halsey Avenue about 8:15 a.m. after a tenant reported that her landlord and an upstairs resident were harassing her. She said the neighbor above was playing loud music and talking loud, and the landlord was making rude phone calls. She was advised to go to district court to file a complaint. On Feb. 26, the upstairs resident called police to complain that the tenant who made the initial call to police is being loud and boisterous, and banging doors shut, in what he believed was an effort to harass him. The neighbor planned to call his landlord about the behavior.

• A massive water main break in the 100 block of Avenue L caused a few road closures near the intersection with Ardmore Boulevard. The fire department was summoned to help assist with traffic control and the closures. Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority was notified by the dispatch center. Public works crews salted Ardmore Boulevard westbound. The next day an officer obsered a large amount of mud still on the roadway and the public works department was to call the water authority.
