Crash Damages Forest Hills Home Saturday, Drugs Involved

An SUV crashed into a home Saturday afternoon; no one was hurt.

Two teenaged girls narrowly escaped disaster in Forest Hills Saturday when a vehicle barrelled into their living room as they sat on a couch.

When they heard the crash, they jumped from their seats near the window and saved their own lives, said Forest Hills Police Chief Charles Williams.

“You don’t really anticipate a car running into your house,” Williams said.

The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. Saturday at 412 Woodside Road. No one was seriously injured.

Kenneth Schwartzer, 25, was driving the SUV and may have been unconscious at the time of the crash, as he had just taken drugs, Williams said. He did not know where the driver resides.

“There was a substantial amount of damage done to the house and they were very lucky,” he said. “The driver was transported to UPMC Shadyside Presbyterian and no one else was hurt so we were lucky.”

Williams said police found what appeared to be heroin in the vehicle. Residents at the home did not want to be identified.

“That was enough for them,” Williams said.

The crash is under investigation. Williams said he believes charges will be filed after official results are received from a drug test taken at the scene.
