Courts: Man Charged with Assaulting Elderly Woman

Leroy Kenyette Barham, 42, of Wilkinsburg was held for court on charges of robbery, simple assault and theft by unlawful taking. police arrested Barham Sept. 13 after they were dispatched to the report of a robbery in an apartment at 1987 Centurion Drive. The victim, Mariah Figueira, an elderly woman who lives in one of the apartments, told police a man knocked on the door.

After she opened it, the man asked, “How are you?” and then immediately sprayed hair spray in her eyes, knocking her to the ground, according to the police criminal complaint. He then took a gold chain and cross necklace from her neck, handed her the hair spray and said, “You can keep this,” the complaint states. Figueira told police she recognized the man as someone who regularly visited a nearby apartment. Police found he was the son-in-law of a neighbor. He denied any involvement in the crime and is in jail on $25,000 bond.

Robin L. Almond, 41, of Wilkinsburg waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of two counts of driving under the influence, disobeying traffic control, disregard of the traffic lane, illegal parking and parking improperly on a one-way highway. State police arrested Almond Aug. 16 after they saw her car parked on the parkway facing east in the westbound lane between the Penn Hills and Monroeville exits, according to the police criminal complaint. A test performed later showed that she had a .207 blood alcohol content, according to the criminal complaint.
