Copper Stolen from Edgewood Light Poles

Police received a report this week of ground wire being stolen from local light poles.

police received a report this week that copper has been stolen from the ground wires of light poles along Edgewood Avenue.

Resident Christopher Harper made a report this week, and also filed a report in January with Duquesne Light, according to police.

Joseph Valarian, manager of media and customer relations at Duquesne Light, said he had not yet heard about the thefts in Edgewood.

“We do have copper thefts from to time,” he said. “We work with the local authorities where they happen to do investigations and try to catch the people who do that.”

He also said this is common among all utility companies.

“As the price of copper goes up, we see a spike with these things,” Valarian said. “It’s pretty stupid because it puts them at risk, and our workers at risk as well. In addition to being a theft, it’s a dangerous pursuit just to get some money.”
