Broken Pipe Causes Icy Issues at Domino's Pizza

Water and cold temperatures can create hazards for motorists and pedestrians this time of year, even at places with hot ovens.

Police received a report about 1:30 p.m. that employees at Domino's Pizza were spraying water on the sidewalk and Ardmore Boulevard outside the business.

Upon investigation, police learned that a pipe break was responsible for the mess and that the employees were trying to clean it up. Police advised them they were inadvertently causing hazardous conditions. They stopped the cleanup and put down salt. The borough public works crew also was called to throw some salt on Ardmore.

Jan. 23

• Police were dispatched to the Subway on Ardmore Boulevard after a caller reported someone peering into the window of the business at 4:55 a.m. The caller told police that when he pulled into the lot, the suspicious man walked to the rear of the building. Police observed a tan Ford Explorer parking in the rear lot but found no one in the area.

Jan. 22

• Police responded to a home in the 100 block of Braddock Road for a report of dogs left outside in the cold weather. Two beagles were found in separate small enclosures with no food and frozen water. Police were unable to reach the owner by phone and left a message. About an hour later, the owner advised officers he had been gone only a short while. He moved both dogs inside the same exterior kennel and provided them with fresh water.

• An officer saw a man sitting on the sidewalk at Atlantic and Lenox avenues. The man, a Wilkins Township resident, explained he had fallen on the sidewalk. The officer observed that the man's right cheek was swollen and that he had a small cut on his hand. He refused to be checked by an emergency medical service unit and asked officers for a ride to Giant Eagle in Braddock Hills Shopping Center.

• A resident of the 200 block of Forest Hills Road reported that a row of hedges about 12 to 15-feet long and five feet in height had been totally destroyed by an unknown moving vehicle.

Jan. 21

• An anonymous man called to report that a woman he identified was driving along Yost Boulevard without a license and was possibly intoxicated. The car he described was not in the area when police checked. Police indicate the same man had called about this same situation at least two times before. Police called back his number and left a message.

Jan. 20

• A resident of the 200 block of Rockwood Avenue called police to report that someone damaged his vehicle between 1 a.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle's side door, front fender and driver's window all were damaged. The officer noted it appeared as though the door part was cut off or ripped off the vehicle and there were no stray pieces around the parked vehicle.  A neighbor who lives near where the car was parked did not hear or see anything, though she had been up until 3 a.m. that night.

• A Glasgow Road resident called police to report a suspicious man in her neighbor's back yard. The man turned out to be a cable company contractor working on a Hillcrest Drive home.

• A resident of the 200 block of Barclay Avenue reported a possible burglary in progress after she heard her garage door open while she was at home. Police checked the house but found no intruder. She was advised to have her garage door opener checked and to call back if anything else suspicious occurred. 

Jan. 19

• A borough employee told police that a vehicle had been parked in the pool lot for a few days. Police checked the vehicle. It was not stolen and did not seem to be damaged.

Jan. 18

• A Pittsburgh resident who had reported a road rage incident on Jan. 10 returned to the station to report on Jan. 17, the same man in the same vehicle did the same thing to him. The driver used a green laser and pointed it at the Pittsburgh man's rear view mirror, striking the man in the face. The Pittsburgh man was able to get a license plate number but police were unable to find any phone number for the suspect.
