Braddock Man Sentenced to Prison for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

Keith Birkett will serve about a year's time for the offense.

Keith Birkett Jr., 33, of Braddock was sentenced in federal court to one year and one day imprisonment followed by five years supervised release on his conviction of failing to register as a convicted sex offender.

U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer imposed the sentence on Birkett on Feb. 15.

Birkett was required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act after having been convicted in 2000 in Queens, NY, of the felony sex offense of attempted sexual abuse of the first degree, according to information presented to the court. In or around January 2011, Birkett traveled in interstate commerce and knowingly failed to register and update a registration, as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
