Bomb Squad Called To Regent Square Thursday Morning

A backpack with the words "time bomb" printed on one of the straps was found on an apartment building stoop on Forbes Avenue—but no explosives were found inside.

Pittsburgh police bomb squad responded to Regent Square this morning after a backpack with the words "time bomb" printed on one of the straps was found at an apartment entrance at the corner building on Forbes Avenue at South Braddock.

No explosives were found inside the bag.

Nina Wolf, who owns Animal Nature, which shares the building with apartments and a restaurant that was empty, was headed up South Braddock from Regent Square when she saw the emergency lights at the building. She was worried the building might be on fire.

"I arrived to find I couldn't get to the store," she said.

She tried coming up the back way on Flotilla Way but was stopped. Wolf said she was a bit upset because she was not permitted to get the shop's two guinea pigs, cat and two chickens out of the building.

Wolf said the package indicated there might be a timing device inside but x-rays taken by the bomb squad showed no explosive materials inside. The scene was cleared by 10:05 a.m. and she was able to access her shop.

The Post-Gazette reports that bomb squad Commander Carlos Schrader said the words were printed on something that looked like a bumper sticker.
