Assault, Forgery Cases Heard in Wilkinsburg

The latest from Wilkinsburg's district court.

The following cases recently were heard by District Judge Kim M. Hoots in Wilkinsburg:

James Alvin Cherry, 34, of Penn Hills was held for court on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment. Wilkinsburg police, who charged Cherry on May 27, said in a criminal complaint that he threw a full beer can at a man’s face and fought him near a Wilkinsburg woman’s home. Cherry previously went to the home and suggested that he and the woman arrange a dog fight, the complaint says. After the woman declined, he came back later and threatened to shoot her.

Anthony R. Porter, 47, of Wilkinsburg was held for court on charges of reckless endangerment, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children and two counts of simple assault. Porter was charged by Wilkinsburg police on March 7. The criminal complaint alleges that Porter threatened to beat his juvenile son. When he tried to leave, Porter grabbed him by the neck, threw him inside and told him he would shoot him if he tried to escape, the complaint says.

Daquale Plowden, 18, of Wilkinsburg was held for court on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded weapon, tampering with physical evidence and possessing a firearm with an altered manufacture number. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges on Feb. 25. According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a report of a single gunshot on Center St. Plowden, who matched witnesses’ description, told police he found the gun in the street and fired it in the air.

Lamontae Warren-King, 25, of McKees Rocks waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of attempted burglary, harassment, criminal mischief and stalking. Wilkinsburg police charged King in May of last year after he allegedly tried to kick in a door at his ex-girlfriend’s Wilkinsburg apartment.

Aliesha Renee Thornton, 25, of Millvale waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and four counts of forgery. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges on May 29. The criminal complaint says Thornton attempted to cash four stolen checks, each for $200, during a four-day period.

Edward Stamerra, 48, of North Huntingdon was held for court on charges of theft by deception and home improvement fraud. Allegheny County detectives charged Stamerra on Jan. 10. According to the criminal complaint, Stamerra cheated an elderly Wilkinsburg woman out of $3,200 without finishing a bathroom remodeling project he was hired to do.

Brian Andrew Gdovic, 39, of Trafford waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of DUI and running a stop sign. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges on March 6.

Lamont Wilson, 24, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of possession of a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. He was charged by Wilkinsburg police on March 26. According to the criminal complaint, Wilson ran from police and threw a bag containing crack after officers, who knew Wilson didn’t have a license, saw him in a car and pulled over.

Christopher Gandy, 23, of Penn Hills waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of DUI, driving without a license and speeding. Wilkinsburg police charged him on April 2 after pulling him over on Penn Ave.

Michael Demetrius Gorman, 27, of Wilkinsburg waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of DUI, driving without a license, speeding, reckless driving, failure to use a turn signal and driving without rear lights. Gorman was charged by Wilkinsburg police on March 28.

Kevin Carter, 44, of Pittsburgh’s North Side was held for court on charges of DUI, speeding, careless driving and failure to report a car accident. Wilkinsburg police charged Carter on April 9 after an accident on Laketon Rd. In the criminal complaint, police said he tested positive for cocaine.

Nikkia Anse Bostick, 21, of Hazelwood waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of DUI, presenting false identification, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended license, speeding and failure to stop at a red light. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges on May 9.

Adarius Philips, 28, of Homewood waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of attempting to elude an officer, marijuana possession, DUI, driving with a suspended license, speeding and failure to obey a stop sign. Wilkinsburg police charged him on April 16.
