How Do You Know... That You are Finding and Following Your Bliss?

In keeping our eyes on the prize, we may be losing ourselves.

What lies below the stem of our drive for order in our lives? It is our fear and denial of death. Death is seen as the ultimate chaos, the ultimate enemy. Comedian Woody Allen says it so aptly for us: "I'm not afraid of dying, I just don't want to be there when it happens!"

We are all going to die. When we acknowledge this reality, we can face the fact that "since I am going to die, since I don't have forever, in fact I only have today, I might as well live it to its fullest!"

From that point on, death has no power over us.  The gates of hell can not prevail against us.  I vividly recall the moment in my own life when I realized that there was nothing "they" could give me or take away from me. In that moment I was freed to be who I am. I no longer had to please, or check each off my decisions and actions against the backdrop of the grand prize "they" could grant me. I had to work through the seduction of thinking that the system could ultimately make me or destroy me. The system does not have that power. A Sacred Text holds this reality to the light: "I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God... No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through [God] who loved us!"( Romans 8 verses 38, 39, 37.)

No wonder our bosses are so frightened of us when we live in this reality. We begin to live in joy, letting go of our imbeddedness, preconceived notions, drivenness and inculturations. Our new selves are ready for grand adventure. We are ready, as Joseph Campbell expressed it, to find our bliss and follow it. Power-keepers would rather we stay in line, held in bondage, keeping our eyes on the prize. What do you think?
