How Do You Know...

Are you a "functional atheist"? You are if you believe that if you don't do it, it won't get done. Begin now to be empowered to share the load with others.

A mysterious disease runs through our institutions, organizations, businesses and even religious communities. Someone named it. It's labeled functional atheism

It's a virus easily caught. Believe me, I know. Oh, some of us would be the last people who would claim to be atheists, but actions speak louder than words.

Let's check your pulse to see if you're susceptible. It is the symptom that says, "If you want something done, you'd better do it yourself." Your behavior says, "If anything is going to happen here, I must be the one to make it happen." And it is the compelling urge to speak believing that, "If I'm not speaking then nothing is happening"? Ultimate responsibility rests with you.

You can become empowered when you share the load with others. What makes you think that you've been appointed the savior of the corporation or the church or the health care system or whatever your institution is?

I don't mean to excuse us from the supreme command to work for righteousness and to be our sisters' or brothers' keepers. We cannot sit back and be inactive and expect things will turn out right. We cannot simply wait and hope that what is wrong will go away. Instead we give voice and heart to make changes. We have the wonderful opportunity and responsibility to participate in the bigger picture.
