DUIs, Burglary Among Cases Handled by Judge Hoots

District Judge Kim M. Hoots heard the following cases in her Wilkinsburg courtroom on Sept. 20:

• Bryanna Kiselauskas, 22, of 3133 Josephine St., Arlington, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of driving under the influence (general impairment/incapable of driving safely, first offense), driving under the influence-high rate of alcohol (blood alcohol content .10 to .16, first offense), disregarding traffic lanes and reckless driving. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges after responding to a motor vehicle accident in the 1200 block of Graham Boulevard on July 19. They found Kiselauskas' car had hit a phone pole and, in a criminal complaint, said she showed signs of intoxication. A breath analyzer test showed her with levels of .145 and .140 percent. The legal limit is .08.

• Bret M. Smith, 34, of 624 Park Ave., Clairton, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of possession of marijuana, driving under the influence (general impairment/incapable of driving safely, first offense), driving under the influence-high rate of alcohol (blood alcohol content .16+, first offense), driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, vehicle registration suspended, refusal to surrender registration plates, operating a vehicle without the required financial responsibility, disreagarding traffic lane, no rear lights, operating a vehicle without a valid inspection and no evidence of emission inspection. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges after noticing a car with inoperable brake lights headed southbound on Montier Street on June 3. The officer smelled marijuana when making the traffic stop and also found an empty liquor bottle and a blunt roach in the car, according to a criminal complaint. Smith failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a blood alcohol content test at Forbes Regional Hospital. 

• Kimberly R. Chapman, 53, of 1903 Columbia Ave., Swissvale, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle/property, driving without a license, driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, and careless driving following an accident on May 10. Edgewood police filed the charges after they were dispatched to the scene of a hit-and-run accident at the corner of Saunders and South Braddock avenues. According to the criminal complaint, the rear side door on Chapman's vehicle was open, striking another car. The complaint accuses Chapman of leaving the scene. The victim gave police the license plate number and they located the car in Swissvale.

• Khalita Price, 32, of 7047 Forest Way, Homewood, waived her right to a preliminary hearing on a charge of terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another. Wilkinsburg police filed the charge after an incident on Feb. 15 in the 300 block of South Avenue. According to the criminal complaint, a car pulled alongside two friends who were walking on the street. The friends told police that Price had a gun on her lap as they had words.

• Jordan Emmanuel Logan, 20, of 126 W. 9th Ave., Homestead, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on three counts of receiving stolen property and one count of theft by unlawful taking-moveable property. Wilkinsburg police filed the charges after they found Logan in possession of items stolen from a vehicle that had been broken into Aug. 21 on Kelly Avenue. According to a criminal complaint, they also recovered items stolen from cars in Pittsburgh, North Versailles and Swissvale. 

• Brandon Duane Jones, 21, of 421 Franklin Ave., Wilkinsburg, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of burglary, conspiracy-burglary, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. According to a criminal complaint, Wilkinsburg police filed the charges after developing Jones as a suspect in the Aug. 3 break-in at a home in the 700 block of Pitt Street. The complaint states that after police found a knife stolen from the apartment, Jones admitted to the burglary.
