Dating 101: Relationship Tip #1—Get Personal

Please join in the dialogue about love and dating.

The next series of three short blogs will focus on inspirational tips for couples to enhance their love life. So, let’s get started. Get personal in your relationship.

The smallest sentiments of romance from your heart are the most enduring. Here are some examples of how you can spice up your intimacy.

  1. Dedicate a time frame of showing love to your significant other. For example, take five days to show expressions of love that you know that your love or you both would enjoy. One client painted a special made hand glass blown jar and put in 50 folded sticky notes with reasons why he loved his wife. She reflects on the notes often. Give small gifts that express your love for a week (ex. favorite candy bar, gum, $5 gift card to their favorite coffee shop or lunch spot, handmade coupons for massages or a day of no chores, etc.)
  2. Make small gestures. The key to this tip is to really have a sense of what your partner would like. If they have a calendar, steal it. Schedule some time to spend together or plan a romantic trip away. A very special person in my life does this all the time and I love it.
  3. Take a Snow Day. Let’s be honest with one another—most of us have been guilty of calling into work to just recharge or just to get away from the office.  So, why not call in and make your next “day off” about the two of you? Have fun by role-playing, and step into my shoes as the romance concierge for the day. We all like to be pampered.

No matter what you decide, let your actions speak your love language and have fun. Love in a relationship can be like an aged wine. Take a moment to savor it, inhale the aroma, exhale with delight, & enjoy the moment. If you have a “get personal” tip to share, please comments.
