2012 GPPNA Annual Meeting & Public Forum

GPPNA Annual Meeting, election of the Board of Directors, and Public Forum with leaders of the ECS-Lower School on S. Braddock Ave.

GPPNA Annual Meeting, Election of the Board of Directors, & Public Forum
Monday, September 24, 2012, 7:00-8:30PM
Waverly Church Social Hall
(corner of Forbes and S. Braddock Aves.)

Beginning last year, the Greater Park Place Neighborhood Association (GPPNA) combined its annual meeting of the membership and election of the Board of Directors with a public forum on a topic relevant to the community. In 2011, we invited a representative of the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority and the executive director of the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association to speak about stormwater management issues after a deadly wet summer left many with soggy basements and damaged property.

For 2012, we're turning to a happier development in the neighborhood--the conversion of the Park Place School Building on S. Braddock Avenue between Waverly and Brashear Streets from condos back to a school building to be used for the Environmental Charter School's K-3 Lower School. Change can be exciting, but with it often comes concerns. For those of us in Park Place who live on or near S. Braddock Avenue, parking and traffic were at the top of the list. The principal, Jon McCann and other representatives from the school have met on several occasions with community members to try to troubleshoot some anticipated problems and to address their new neighbors' concerns. Mr. McCann and the Assistant Principal, Ashley Frye, will be joining us on Monday evening, September 24th, to talk about how things are going now that school has started and to discuss the role the school can play in the neighborhood. ECS has reached out to GPPNA and expressed a desire to be a resource to the community, and have already offered up their cafeteria as the new (old!) polling place for residents in the 15th ward, 14th district for the coming election in November.

In addition to the public forum, the GPPNA Board will give a brief report of its activities over the past year and elections will be held for open Board positions. If you would like to serve on the Board, please send an email to info@parkplaceblog.com with a brief bio about yourself and why you are seeking election. This bio will be posted on our website http://www.parkplaceblog.com/ and shared through our email Update. You must be a member of GPPNA to run for the Board and you must live in or represent a business that is located within the official neighborhood boundaries. You can join at the Annual Meeting (dues are $10 per person) and your membership will be good until December 31, 2012.

There will also be information available regarding the new voter ID law and how to make sure that you have what you need to cast a ballot on November.
