Wolverine Boys Continue Successful Season

This past week was certainly a good one for the Wolverine boys.

They defeated rival  Penn Hills  on Tuesday night 64-56. In a contest that featured end-to-end action, the Wolverines took control in the latter stages to post the win.

The main event of the week occurred on Friday night when the Gateway Gators were poised to avenge of an overtime loss on their home court earlier this season. Featuring one of the largest crowds rooting on the home squad, both teams began slowly missing short open jumpers and three-pointers. The Wolverines forged to a seven-point lead as the teams headed to the locker room for halftime.

Gateway squeezed the margin through the third quarter, eventually bringing the game to a tie early in the second half. Coach Mike Decker then rallied his troops to aggressively control the fourth quarter, taking away a 58-47 win.  Shakim Alonzo's 20 points enabled him to surpass the 1,000 point total in his career at Woody High.

The Wolverines now lead the conference with a mark of 6-1 as they head to Franklin Regional this Tuesday. The WHHS cagers return home looking to even the home-and-home series with the Fox Chapel Foxes Friday at 7:30.
