Pittsburgh Movie News

Pittsburgh movie news, July 10 - 22.

At the Pennsylvania Film Industry Association (PaFIA) event last Friday, new PA Film Commissioner Lenwood Sloan indicated that there will soon be an announcement regarding four feature-length films to be shot in PA during the fall and winter months. No word yet on how many of these projects affect Pittsburgh, but I'm keeping my ears open.

Speaking of film projects affecting Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported this week that people who frequent downtown and Oakland may be inconvenienced by the filming of "The Dark Knight Rises" in upcoming weeks. That's hardly as stealth as we've come to expect from this production, which uses the code name "Magnus Rex" and which posted a new casting announcement initially not with the Pittsburgh Film Office, not from casting director Nancy Mosser, but linked on the website of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The production is looking to fill Heinz Field with fans, on Saturday August 6 from 7am to 7pm, and the above link allows people to sign up individually or in groups of 35 or more. There will not be pay involved, but, you can say you were in a Batman movie, and there will be prizes raffled throughout the day.
