CommuteInfo Can Get You to Work the 'Green' Way

The CommuteInfo program is designed to increase the number of people who travel to work or to school by riding transit, carpooling, vanpooling or bikepooling.

Commuters in the Forest Hills-Regent Square area can turn their morning and evening commutes into ones that save money and help the environment.

The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission's CommuteInfo program works with transportation management associations, transportation providers, businesses and non-profit service organizations in Allegheny County and nine other counties to increase the number of people who travel to work or to school by riding transit, carpooling, vanpooling or bikepooling.

CommuteInfo's goal is for commuters living, working or attending school within Allegheny County to choose ridesharing at least twice per week.

In the Pittsburgh region, 60 percent of workers commute to jobs outside of their resident municipalities, according to CommuteInfo's statistics. In Allegheny County, that's 417,598 workers.

Commuters might be surprised how much it actually costs to get to work or to school. CommuteInfo provides this Commute Cost Calculator to figure expenses.

During May, which is CommuteInfo's Commute Options Awareness Month, the effort will be placed on encouraging more people regionally to use an alternative commute to get to work or to school. May was chosen as this special month since it includes National Transportation Week, National Bike to Work Day, National Clean Air Week, and National Employee Health and Fitness Day.

Commuters can register with CommuteInfo and request a commuting options report either online or by calling 1-888-819-6110.
