2011 Polar Plunge
The Allegheny County Police Department announced that a team of 26 will participate in the Second Annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Pennsylvania. The County Police team has raised more than $3,100 to date and is still collecting pledges.
“Plunge Town” will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and include food, family activities, raffles, law enforcement vehicle displays and more along Art Rooney Avenue next to Heinz Field. The plunge will begin at noon in the Ohio River next to the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Mister Rogers statue and continue until all teams are finished. The event is free to spectators. Free parking will be available in Heinz Field Gold Lot 1.
A total of 101 teams, mostly sponsored by law enforcement agencies, with more than 1,000 plungers are expected to participate. To date, all teams have raised more than $188,000 to benefit Special Olympics Pennsylvania.
