Organist Olivier Latry to Perform at Calvary Episcopal Church

The Organ Artists Series (OAS) of Pittsburgh presents
organist Olivier Latry in concert at 4 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 20, at Calvary
Episcopal Church. The performance, co-presented with Calvary Episcopal Church
as the Donald C McVay Organ Recital,
kicks off the 35th season of the OAS.



Named 2009
International Performer of the Year by the New York City chapter of the
American Guild of Organists, Olivier Latry is regarded as one of the world’s
most distinguished organists and most noted “improvisateurs” in the French
tradition. He currently teaches at the Paris Conservatory and serves as titular
organist at the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.



Latry is
slated to perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Charles-Marie Widor, Louis
Vierne, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Maurice Duruflé before closing out the concert
with improvisation.

Built in
1905, Calvary Episcopal Church’s limestone walls and oak-clad, vaulted ceiling
offer a warm acoustical setting. Calvary’s Casavant Frères Limite organ dates
back to 1963, with modifications in 1991 and 2004. Today, it features 7,626
pipes and 138 ranks.



A reception with light hors d'oeuvres
and refreshments follows the concert. Parking is available immediately adjacent
to the venue. Tickets are $12; $5 for students. For
