Work Set Thursday and Monday for Electric Avenue Bridge on Eastbound Route 30

The new beams for the bridge will require traffic stoppages as they are transported from the Parkway East along Ardmore Boulevard through Forest Hills.

Work to place beams for the new bridge carrying eastbound Route 30 over Electric Avenue in North Braddock Borough will occur on Thursday, Sept. 13, and Monday, Sept. 17, weather permitting.

Ten 150-foot long concrete beams (five each day) will be delivered to the project during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Monday. The beams will be delivered from Blair County through Westmoreland County using Route 22 to the inbound (westbound) Parkway East (I-376) to the /Wilkinsburg exit to access Route 30.

Motorists should expect to encounter possible delays and traffic stoppages as the delivery will require difficult maneuvering through the interchange. Police will assist with any necessary traffic control.

The beam placements on the new bridge will occur from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Thursday and Monday nights. During the placements, traffic stoppages of 10 minutes or less will occur in both directions on Route 30.

The $12.9 million project includes replacing the bridges over Electric Avenue, bituminous pavement, approach work, drainage, guide rail and concrete barrier, highway lighting, retaining walls and other improvements.

The overall project will be completed in fall 2013. The prime contractor is the Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down, and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Visit 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling.
