Work on Parkway East Continues this Week

PennDOT District 11 is announcing work to improve bridge transitions on the Parkway East in Allegheny County will continue weather permitting this week, Monday through Thursday nights.

Crews will be replacing pavement transitions at several bridge locations between the Grant/Stanwix Street (Exit 71) and Wilkinsburg/Forest Hills (Exit 78) interchanges.

Work will occur between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and Wilkinsburg/Forest Hills (Exit 78) interchanges on Monday and Tuesday nights. The work location will move on Wednesday and Thursday nights to the area between the Oakland/Bates Street (Exit 73) and Grant/Stanwix Street (Exit 71). 

Lane closures will be necessary to perform the improvements. The following restrictions will occur this week: 

Two lane areas

Inbound (westbound)

• Single lane traffic from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Outbound (eastbound)

• Single lane traffic from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. 

Three lane areas

Inbound

• Single lane closure (two of three lanes open) from 7-11 p.m. At 11 p.m. two of three lanes will be closed allowing only one inbound lane to remain open overnight through 6 a.m.

Outbound

• Single lane closure (two of three lanes open) from 7-9 p.m. At 9 p.m. two of three lanes will be closed allowing only one outbound lane to remain open overnight through 6 a.m. 

Note: Outbound single lane restrictions will begin at midnight on Tuesday, May 24, due to a Pirates home game.

The $3.2 million project includes repairing, rehabilitating and overlaying pavement transitions at various bridge locations within the project area. The prime contractor is the Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. of Imperial, PA. Overall work will be completed in early summer 2011.
