Community Corner

Patch All-Star Kids: Shawnte Hicks, Vanessa Buschek, Janesha Ware, Aszradi Smith, and Ryan Rodman.

Fairless Elementary's Service Club consists of this week's Patch All-Star Kids

The Fairless Service Club likes to give back to its school and community as much as they like to have fun.

Accomplishment: The Service Club, started by teacher Rachel Scholze last year, holds tons of fun events, activities, and fundraisers for its fellow classmates and community members. This includes movie nights, wear-your-pajamas-to-school days, talent shows, and classroom door decorating contests.

In addition, they provide a ton of philanthropic services to their community.  They teach fire safety to the younger students of Fairless, sponsor Pennies for Patients in order to raise money for cancer treatments, and have volunteered multiple times at the Debra House homeless shelter. In the past two years, they raised more than $500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation with their Talent Show, and more than $400 for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. They also held a Winter Craft Night for 250 Fairless families, getting the entire town involved.

All-Star Kids' Key to Awesomeness: The Club members enjoy the work because to them, it isn’t work at all. They take pride in helping their community, and they have a blast while doing it.  They all share the same sentiment: helping others is not only rewarding, but also a lot of fun.

Ware says that the Service Club is a great way for them to do good, while also showing others a good time. “It’s fun for us to see them happy,” she said of her classmates and community members.

“We do great activities, but we’re still helping people,” Rodman added.

Buschek summed it up perfectly: “It’s fork,” she said. “Fun, and work!”

Keep up the good fork then guys -- we appreciate it!

And be sure to keep an eye out for any Fairless Service Club sponsored events!
