Outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel Single Lane Closures Begin Wednesday

There will be single-lane traffic in the outbound tunnel along the Parkway East through Dec. 11.

Overnight single-lane traffic in the outbound (eastbound) Squirrel Hill Tunnel on the Parkway East (I-376) will begin on Wednesday night, Nov. 28.

Single-lane traffic will occur in the outbound tunnel according to the following schedule through Dec. 11:

  • 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday-Thursday nights
  • 11 p.m. to 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights   

According to PennDOT, crews will be conducting rehabilitation work in the tunnel and improvements to the Commercial Avenue Bridge. Motorists are advised to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The work is part of the $49.5 million Squirrel Hill Tunnel rehabilitation project. Overall work will conclude in summer 2014. The prime contractor is the Walsh Construction Co. of Canonsburg.
