Keystone Health Club Partners with Joslin Diabetes Center to Provide New Program

The first information session is being held Monday at 4 p.m.

East Pittsburgh’s Keystone Health Club has partnered with the Joslin Diabetes Center to provide a program designed to help clients with diabetes live a healthy lifestyle and incorporate physical activity into their management plan.

Membership in the “I Can: Keystone Health Club Diabetes Wellness Project” includes a consultation and evaluation with a physical therapist, individualized workouts designed specifically for diabetes patients, diabetes management workshops with experts from Joslin Diabetes Center, and a full club membership. Patients can choose between two levels of membership in the program.

Keystone Health Club will host two “Ask the Diabetes Expert” information sessions on March 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and April 1 from 9 a.m. to noon, where participants can meet with diabetes experts from Joslin Diabetes Center, learn healthy lifestyle choices and meet with personal trainers.

“There are over 4,000 people living with diabetes within five miles of the club. We are thrilled to partner with Joslin Diabetes Center to bring their knowledge and innovative approach to diabetes management to these residents who may not otherwise have the opportunity to receive such individualized care,” Randy O’Rourke, Keystone Health Club Owner, said in a news release.

O’Rourke himself was diagnosed with diabetes in 2006 and understands the difficulties that accompany a diagnosis.

“Being diagnosed with diabetes can be daunting, but by incorporating exercise into my daily routine and making other small changes, I’ve learned to manage my diabetes in a health way,” O’Rourke said. “Participating in the 'I Can' program will be a great way for people to learn these important health and management tips in a comfortable and supportive environment.”

Recently named “Best in the Burgh” by Pittsburgh Magazine, the Keystone Health Club is a full-service gym offering the latest workout equipment and classes, spa services, a café, and lounges. It is located at 655 Braddock Ave., East Pittsburgh.
