All-Star Kid: Davontay Rue

Davontay Rue shares his musical skills with the neighborhood.

Accomplishment: Davontay Rue, a junior at Woodland Hills High School, has been drumming since he was three years old. He is currently the drummer in the Swissvale United Methodist Church praise band. You can hear his talent at Sunday service or at local events like Swissvale Community Days—you may have seen him at Taste of Swissvale this past Sunday.

Not only does Rue enjoy playing the drums, but he is also producing his own music and the music of other local talents. Recently, he recorded a Pittsburgh rapper and rock band. His forte is hip-hop and R&B.

All-Star Kid's Key to Awesomeness: "I love playing the drums because you can play any type of music and it'll sound good," Rue said. He puts in a lot of hours of practice, both with the band and independently. "I practice all the time, definitely every day," he said.

Aside from hard work, his unwavering passion for music is what keeps him going. In particular, he enjoys playing all different kinds of gospel with the praise band on Sundays.

Be sure to keep an ear out for this All-Star!
