Visions for Vacancies: What Should Go on This Forest Hills Corner?

This vacant structure at the corner of Ardmore Boulevard and Braddock Road sits at one of the borough's prime corners.

At the corner of Ardmore Boulevard and Braddock Road in Forest Hills sits a vacant office building.

Built in 1928, the five-story structure at 1844 Ardmore Blvd. is for sale for $625,000. It has 52,192 square feet that have been used as office space through the years and the sales information indicates it has been remodeled.

Giant Eagle had its eyes on the property for a GetGo gas station/convenience store this summer. But Forest Hills Presbyterian Church declined the gas station’s $200,000 offer for a portion of its parking lot in August that would have been needed for the proposed GetGo, bringing an end to a debate among the church members that the Rev. Ben Black, pastor, described as “heated.”

Do you have a vision for this property?

Do you think it should remain as an office building or should it be razed and another commercial structure built on the property? And if that's the case, what would be compatible in the residential neighborhood that includes a church as a neighbor and public park across the street?

We certainly don't need another coffee shop - Forest Hills Coffee down the road from there is by far the best coffee anywhere!

First, anyone who says that building has been remodeled hasn't looked in the window. Second, unless you live in the immediate area as I do and will have to deal with the resultant change, I really don't care what you think should go there.

This is pretty funny cause I was just contemplating what I would like to do with this as I drive by it everyday. I would like to see it razed and something more appealing be built while making the area more walkable. I'm not sure what type of business would be good for the area but I do live in the immediate area and welcome some change for this eye sore. Don't think a gas station is a great idea.

For openers, this is a residential district. At best, it should be torn down and made a park. At worst, the Church should be given a great deal and allowed to build a youth center or something. That place has been an eyesore probably since it was built. Oh...no apartments. Mike Mcpherson Newport Rd
