Mookshi Center Focuses on Regent Square Wellness
The new Mookshi Wellness Center houses a yoga studio and more.
The new Mookshi Wellness Center is offering locals in Regent Square a place to explore their minds, bodies and souls through a variety of homeopathic and ancient treatments and exercises.
“Our intention here is really to be part of the community. I think that this end of town has a lot of interest in this type of work, in personal wellness and personal advancement,” said Cara Freidheim, the center’s owner and creator.
The center, which had its grand opening last month, is located above the Biddle’s Escape coffee shop.

The name of the center is a derivative of the sanskrit word “mukshyia” meaning the path to liberation or freedom.
“It has a resonant meaning to me,” said Freidheim, who pulled the word from one of her favorite mantras, or phrases for meditation. “The energy of the word I thought would be something good to share with people.”

Freidheim, who has been a practicing massage therapist for six years and a yoga instructor for four, founded the center with six friends skilled in a variety of different wellness techniques.
“The wonderful thing about what we’re doing here is that everybody is really specialized in what they do,” Freidheim said.
Each practitioner carries on their service individually on a separate schedule but they share the space, which includes a yoga studio and three different treatment rooms.
Mookshi Wellness Center offers public exercise classes everyday that include yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi, and interested students can also schedule private sessions.
Zen seekers can also participate in a variety of treatments that affect different areas of the body from the physical backaches to the intangible pain of anxiety and stress.
Relaxation and healing services offered by the center include Reiki, Shiatsu, Shirodhara, sound healing, structural integration, massage and Thai massage.
Reiki is a Japanese practice of hand healing or transferring positive energy through the hands, while Shiatsu is a type of Japanese acupressure massage focused around pressure points. Shirodhara is an Indian natural healing treatment of pouring warm oil over the third eye, or spiritual center located on the forehead.
“(Our services) allow your body to enter a healing state, so it’s really multifaceted. It’s not just on a physical level, it’s really, mind, body, spirit,” Freidheim said.
The easiest way to book a private class or session is by calling the center’s number at 412-407-7829, but Freidheim says that when Mookshi’s website launches, contact information for each individual teacher and practitioner will be available online.
